CDM2008: Design Research

Design research turns questions about people, contexts, and experiences into evidence that can guide responsible design decisions. This course introduces a systematic process for framing research, selecting qualitative methods, conducting fieldwork, synthesizing findings, and communicating actionable insights.

Week 6: Stimuli Design Workshop · Prototyping Research Instruments

Hangeul Day · No regular offline class

Opening Questions

  • Can participants clearly perceive the intended difference between our conditions?
  • Are the stimuli realistic enough to produce meaningful responses while remaining controlled?
  • What level of prototype fidelity does this research question actually require?

Learning Goal

Develop testable design stimuli that represent each comparison condition clearly while keeping unintended differences under control.

Homework

  • FC Watch ‘Research Logic Check: Aligning the Full Proposal.’ DueOct. 16
  • Homework Use the revised Documentation Sheet as the direct source for the Section 3.3 working draft.
    • For each condition, describe the participant-facing form, intended difference, controlled elements, and development rationale.
    • Convert the figure/caption drafts into paper-ready figures and captions, and include accessible prototype or media links.
    • Do not recreate the rationale from scratch; refine the decisions already documented in the activity.
