CDM2008: Design Research

Each regular class produces an In-class Working Material such as a canvas, snapshot, board, prototype, analysis output, or feedback log. Teams submit one rough but sufficiently complete working version before class ends. These submissions document participation, research decisions, and project progress.

• After the in-class submission, students complete Paper Translation Homework by translating the working material into the designated section of the shared master manuscript. A short Activity-to-Paper example and writing guide are provided at the end of class. These updates are required working drafts rather than final polished sections.
• In-class Working Materials contribute to Preparation & In-class Engagement. Homework is required for project progress and must be completed on time, but it is not graded separately. Formal Deliverables remain the assessed outcomes and evaluate the integrated quality and coherence of the four project stages.

Students must follow the approved consent, privacy, data handling, and participant-respect procedures introduced in class.

You are expected to attend every class and be on time. Your commitment and participation in the course contribute to the learning experience of all participants.

• Avoid absences because you will miss important information that may not be in the readings. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get information regarding announcements and topics covered from your peers.
• Not attending more than one-third of the entire course (a total of 5 absences) results in an F, in accordance with school policy.
• Being 30 minutes or more late to a class or session counts as an absence.
• Absences for religious holidays, quarantine or isolation, or occasional school events are excused in accordance with university regulations and guidelines. Please communicate with the instructor ahead of time if you know you will be absent.
• For every unexcused absence, 2 points will be deducted.

Watching the pre-recorded lecture videos is not optional; it directly affects your grade.

• For every assigned pre-recorded video that is not watched, 2 points will be deducted.

Participate respectfully and actively.

• Listen to and consider other viewpoints.
• Actively share ideas with group members and classmates.
• To participate effectively, you need to watch the assigned pre-recorded lecture videos.

Team presentations will be graded as a whole, but peer evaluation may be used to adjust individual grades if there is a significant imbalance in contribution.

All students are expected to complete assignments by the due dates and times announced in the lecture. Please ensure timely submission and effectively plan and balance your academic work and other commitments. The late-submission penalty is as follows:

• 1 minute–6 hours late: 10% of the maximum allowable marks
• 6–24 hours late: 25% of the maximum allowable marks
• 24–48 hours late: 50% of the maximum allowable marks
• 48–72 hours late: 75% of the maximum allowable marks
• An assignment submitted more than 3 days late will not be evaluated and will be reported as “not submitted.”

Copying someone else’s ideas, even if you change the wording, is a serious academic offense. To avoid plagiarism, when referring to others’ work, do not change the intended message, add new information, leave out important details, or alter the level of formality.

• If a student’s grade is discovered to have been earned through cheating or dishonesty, the grade will become invalid and further disciplinary action will be enforced.
• Please actively use Turnitin to self-check and avoid potential plagiarism.
• If the instructor or peers identify plagiarism in an assignment, project output, report, or other submitted work, the student will receive zero points for that project.

Course materials are produced and published for the purpose of teaching Yonsei University students. They may not be used for any other purpose or shared with others. Legal responsibility for any violation lies with the person who committed it.

• Unauthorized recording is not allowed unless you inform the faculty member and receive approval in advance.
